Mission and Goals

Mission

To promote, guide and direct an action program that will result in the efficient conservation of soil and water.

Goals

To encourage the use of all Douglas County land within its capability and to treat each acre according to its need.

History

The Douglas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was organized on August 10, 1954 by local farmers for the purpose of promoting the art and science of good land use. The SWCD assists landowners and operators in planning and applying the soil and water conservation practices needed to protect and improve their soil and water resources. The SWCD is a legal subdivision of the State of Minnesota, operating under a charter issued by the Secretary of State on November 12, 1946. The activities of the District are governed and directed by an elected board of five supervisors.
