Outstanding Conservationists for 2010
Douglas County Lakes Association

The Douglas SWCD Board of Supervisors selected the Douglas County Lakes Association as the Outstanding Conservationists of the Year.

The Douglas County Lakes Association (DCLA) was formed in 1992 with a mission to support member associations by coordinating and leading county wide environmental and limnoligical efforts; to provide governmental and regulatory liaison; and to promote education, public awareness, and advocacy of lake and lakeshore issues.  Currently there are 27 lake associations that belong to DCLA.

The DCLA has been active in public education through seminars, public information open houses, radio programs, and youth activities.  With the discovery of zebra mussels in the summer of 2009, the DCLA has taken the local lead in educating the public on preventing the spread of zebra mussels.  The DCLA is well deserving of the Outstanding Conservationist of the Year award for all their dedicated work on protecting the water resources of Douglas County.
